Hurricane Express is a growing company looking for persons with experience in dispatching OTR trucks. We are a For Hire Interstate Carrier, specializing in long haul refrigerated freight operated by independent contractor drivers. Currently we have 150 trucks with the intention of expanding in the near future. Driver Managers are expected to maintain effective communication with customers, drivers, and management to ensure the timeliness of freight and equipment movement. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; dispatching and routing drivers on loads, managing loads from assignment to delivery, managing any problems that arise (e.g. late deliveries, unexpected fees/claims, truck/driver problems, etc.), ensuring drivers abide by federal/state laws, answering phone lines, recommend strategies to generate resources and increase productivity. Additional duties may include: review driver paperwork (including all bills of lading and trip documents for accuracy), enter shipment data, and communicate with the maintenance department to ensure timely repairs. Geographical knowledge is a plus, but is not mandatory.
Our current main freight lanes are as follows: Arkansas/Oklahoma to California/Arizona; California/Arizona to New York City & surrounding areas; East Coast to Arkansas/Oklahoma.
Dispatch must work closely with the Safety and Human Resource (HR) departments, Payroll and Management. Adhere to company policies and procedure and alert the HR Manager, or proper point of contact for help when needed. Adhere to safety regulations and standards. Promptly report any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the appropriate personnel.
After hour and on-call work up to 2 days per week (and some weekends). Specific tasks related to the position are as follows: operate multi-line phone, utilize multiple freight software, utilize cost effective resources when scheduling loads, control expenses by monitoring out of route and on time performance of drivers, ensure compliance with safety, DOT, FMCSA, environmental codes, and Federal and State permit regulations when planning routes, resolve conflicts, and perform other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in driver management, freight dispatch or closely related fields is preferred but not required. Must possess excellent oral and written skills. Must have the ability to plan, direct, and coordinate appointments. Ability to work in fast paced, detail oriented environment. Ability to organize, prioritize, communicate effectively, and have strong decision making skills. Knowledge of use of a personal computer, multi-line phone system, and MS Office software required.
